April-May 2012 Artist-in-Residence project for International Fascination of Plants Day ... Exhibition on May 18th at the University of QLd's Institute of Molecular Bioscience
Local Brisbane artist Sophie Munns will complete a 3-week stint as a 'botanical artist-in-residence' at the University of Queensland's Institute for Molecular Bioscience where she will gain inspiration for her 'homage to the seed' project + series of artwork as well as prepare an exhibition at I M B that will to co-incide with 2012 International Fascination of Plants Day on Friday 18 May.
Also as part of the inaugural Plants Day on May 18th Julian Cribb, one of Australia's most experienced science communicators and writers, will talk on "The Importance of Plants to the Survival of the Human Race" in a public lecture organised by UQ's Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation, QAAFI.
This residency came about via the Australian initiative of the Fascination of Plants Day through which the connection was made with Dr Joshua S. Mylne - ARC QEII Fellow, Chemistry & Structural Biology Division, Institute for Molecular Bioscience at the University of Queensland. The artist wishes to thank Joshua Mylne and all staff who've extended the most excellent interactive opportunities and support to assist in making it a highly worthwhile and indeed memorable experience.
