Artwork for Global Seedbank Celebration in Svalbard Preparing for QACI Resdidency & Exhibition Brisbane
In February when 10 year celebrations of the global Seedbank were held at Svalbard in the Arctic Circle, Norway, artwork by Sophie Munns commissioned by the Crop Trust featured on the Legacy Awards presented to leading scientists from around the planet (shown above). The artist spent over a year communicating with Crop Trust staff in Bonn developing the concept, and many hours researching the image banks of the Genebank Collections of important global crops. Wild species, landraces and heritage seeds, grains & plants were researched to find appropriate images for the artwork. A definite highlight for the artist the artwork will be uploaded here soon.

Mid-May Sophie Munns will carry out a 2 week residency at QACI - Queensland Academies Creative Industries, a senior state school located in the Kelvin Grove Urban Village nestled among the QUT University Campus.
Her exhibition 'Seed Language' will show at the gallery at QACI for the first two weeks of June. Details will be added here very soon with additional event notices and a workshop which you can book to attend. |
